Today, we celebrate her great success and would like to congratulate Sheila Benson, winner of the Birmingham Business Journal’s 2014 CEO Award for Midsize Birmingham companies.  Previously, Benson won this award for the Small Business category. With two Birmingham Business Journal awards in less than ten years, it is the level of excellence that Benson continues to maintain that has kept her on the list of the top CEOs in Birmingham.

Sometimes people set out with the goal of becoming a business owner, while other times circumstances and necessity lead to it. This was the case for ESS CEO, Sheila Benson.

Originally from Oxford, Georgia, Sheila attended Columbia Southern School of Law in Atlanta with a degree in paralegal studies. After moving to Birmingham, the company she was working for suddenly went bankrupt, so Sheila recognized an opportunity and tapped into her entrepreneurial spirit to start her own company. With a small child and a great need to make a living, failure was never an option for Benson. Her story is truly one of great determination, ingenuity and hard work that has led to her enormous success in the background screening industry.
